I really feel like I woke up one morning and fell into 2018. Between taking 2 trips in December, and working on multiple projects, January crept up on me, and to be honest, I was not ready. The month is almost over, and it feels as though I have spent all January preparing for 2018. Yes, very backwards. I have spent these last 3 weeks decluttering my home, my life, and my thoughts.
With that being said, I am happy to tell you all that this year I will be shifting my current lifestyle to more of a minimalist approach. I am getting rid of junk, getting rid of so-so friends, and cutting back on my spending. After my multiple trips to Haiti, I am learning that I am truly happy with less. I spent most of my days in Haiti without electricity, and with very little water usage. Even then, I felt satisfied, fulfilled, and happy. When I looked around me, I noticed most of the women were very simple, yet very beautiful. I could feel their glow of happiness. This has inspired me to reflect more on my life, and on the things that really make me happy.
I am most happy when I am with family. When I am with friends. When I am indulging myself with some of the best ethnic food, when I am making new memories from new experiences, and when I am praising my Lord. None of these things involve material things, and most of these things can be fulfilled with very little. After much reflection, I have decided to focus on these things and to start letting go of all things that do not bridge back to the things that truly make me happy.
A few of the things I have removed from my life are:
After going through my closet and getting rid of the stuff that I did not need, I was motivated to remove even more of the junk in my life. I literally feel like a weight is lifted off my shoulders. I will spend this year getting rid of junk. It’s a process, and if it does not serve a purpose in my life, I am letting that junk go. Throughout the year, I will post small video clips of the changes I am making to transition into a minimalist lifestyle. Cleaning out my closet is the first way I started. Check it out below!
