Finally! I'm going back to my homeland to visit. Annnddddddd my husband is coming along! He is super excited. So excited that he even made us an itinerary. If anyone knows my husband then you know that he is the last person expected to have a planned schedule of activities. My husband does everything on the fly. He even moved across the country on the fly -true story. So when he presented our daily schedule, I almost choked. He definitely took me by surprise! There, he had, all activities prepared for a week long in Haiti with housing, transportation, food AND excursions all planned out with TIMES. YES, he found a way to surprise me once again.
Anyway, for those of you who do not know, this will be our first vacation trip to Haiti together. It will also be my husband's first trip to a third world country. This will also be my first trip to Haiti without a parent. In the past, I have only traveled back home (Haiti) with my mom. Yup, true mama's girl over here. We have been planning everything from our housing and transportation, to how many socks we may need. Flying with Spirit is also tricky with their baggage requirements. So we knew that we would have to strategically plan. Especially since my husband is only taking a backpack for a week worth of stay. I'm taking a pack back and a carry on for 3 weeks worth of stay.
Before packing, we made a list of everything we will need, a list of things we DO NOT want to forget, and a list of things to get done before we leave relating to our trip. For example, he knew that we needed to notify our bank of our trip to allow our debit cards to work internationally. We also estimated how much carry on cash we would need and printed off our travel insurance cards, and other documents. Here is a list of the items we know that we cannot afford to forget.
For packing, we purchased packing cubes from amazon. These packing cubes are great because you can fit so much in such a small space. Check out the pictures below. I provided more details about the packing cubes below the pictures.
Max used the medium packing cube, and we were able to fit 7 shirts, and 3 pairs of shorts. Remember, he is only taking a backpack. Inside the backpack, he has 2 pair of shoes, the medium packing cube, and his hygiene products.
I used the large and small packing cubes. The large is in my carry on, and the small is in my backpack. In my backpack, I have 2 outfits, hygiene/beauty bag, makeup up bag, camera bag, medicine bag, a small bag full of other accessories, and an extra pair of shoes.
The carry on has 14 outfits and 2 pairs of shoes, 1 pillow case, 2 swimsuit cover ups, 6 swimming suits, and mine and Max's undergarments.
I'm praying that we successfully make it through Spirit check in with our bags. The bags' sizes are well under the restrictions, but I must say we packed our bags pretty full! I'll keep y'all posted.
So this is it! I'm praying that this trip is successful and that we return back safely. Prayers are needed!
UPDATE: we got though Spirit security just fine! Praise the Lord. We weren't questioned at all :-)
